A Simple Notion Timeline automation to save you fiddling around with dates when tasks need to happen in a certain order.

Why this template?

Timelines on Notion are great, but if you've got a lot of work to do that needs to be done in a particular order and where some things can't be started before something else finishes, you'll find yourself manually updating all the entries on your timeline. Nobody wants that!

With this Automated Notion Timelines template, all you have to do is set the number of days something will take to complete and link it to the task that comes before. Done! Each linked task will automatically update when the one changes.

🧐 How To Use This Timeline

  1. Start by defining a task that needs doing.
  2. Set a start date for that task and set a number of days you want to assign to that task
    • You will see the Timeline Start Date and Timeline End Date be automatically populated from what you entered above.
  3. Now add another task. This one will be linked to the first task via the Notion Relation property called Parent Item.
  4. Set the Parent Item to point to the first task you created.
  5. Set the number of days you want to assign to that task.
    • You will see the Timeline Start Date being automatically populated with the Timeline End Date of the Parent Item task

Each new task added can be linked to the previous (or any other task) and it will calculate the Timeline Start Date and Timeline End Date when the Days property has been set.

Repeat the steps above for as many tasks you need to add.

πŸŽ‰ All done! πŸŽ‰
